India Shuffle: Where the Underground Meets the Mainstream

India has far more talent than we get to see. India Shuffle exists to find the dancers who are already brilliant and simply have not been noticed yet.

India Shuffle: Where the Underground Meets the Mainstream

I have always believed that India has far more talent than we actually get to see.

You can walk into a dance studio, a college campus, a local competition or even a small rehearsal room and find dancers who are incredibly good. They may not have millions of followers or the right connections, but they have spent years working on their craft.

Sometimes, all an artist really needs is for someone to notice.

That was one of the thoughts behind India Shuffle.

I wanted to create a platform where dancers could come with their own style, their own story and their own energy. A place where someone from the underground could get the opportunity to stand on a bigger stage and be seen for what they can actually do.

Because talent should not always have to wait for an invitation.

The underground has so much to say

Some of the most exciting things happening in dance today are happening away from the big stages.

The underground dance community is constantly experimenting. Hip-hop, breaking, contemporary, Bollywood and street styles are coming together in ways that feel fresh and very Indian. Young dancers are taking influences from around the world and turning them into something of their own.

That is what excites me about India Shuffle.

We are not here to tell artists how they should dance. We want to give them a space to show us who they are.

And that is also why our collaboration with Elli AvrRam felt so special.

Elli has always had a strong connection with dance and performance, and bringing her into India Shuffle adds another dimension to the platform. She understands the discipline behind a performance, the energy of a stage and, most importantly, the passion that dancers bring to what they do.

For me, collaborations like this are important because when different people come together around the same art form, something new happens. You exchange ideas, you learn from each other and you see your own work from a different perspective.

That is the kind of energy I want India Shuffle to create.

There is a dancer somewhere who just needs one chance

I often think about the young dancer who is practising somewhere right now without knowing where it will take them.

Maybe their parents still think dancing is just a hobby.

Maybe they have never performed on a professional stage.

Maybe they don’t have a manager, a huge social media following or industry connections.

But they keep practising.

They keep showing up.

And when the music starts, they can completely change the room.

I want to find those dancers.

Not because they have the biggest following, but because they have something worth watching.

India Shuffle is our attempt to create that opportunity.

Yes, there is competition. But for me, it is much bigger than that. I want this to become a place for discovery, collaboration, friendships and careers that may begin simply because someone was given a chance.

The mainstream and the underground should not have to exist as two separate worlds.

There should be a bridge between them.

And if India Shuffle can become that bridge for even a few young artists, if it can give someone their first big stage, their first collaboration or simply the confidence to believe that they belong here, then it will mean something.

Because the next great dancer may not be the person everyone already knows.

They may be the person nobody has heard of yet.

We just want to make sure they get their chance to be seen.
